Brussels - a Saga of a Rainy Saturday Stay

I got to spend a very rainy Saturday afternoon in Brussels. As I was wandering I noticed a very very local looking bar room. That evening, as it was still storming, I found my way to the bar and went in. People were friendly and one person spoke some English. After a little conversation I made the “mistake” of buying a round for the bar. Guess it is a local thing, but everyone then bought a drink for everyone, the bartender keeping up drink for drink. After a couple, what aspect of American life did they want me to tell: Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky jokes. Fortunately I knew them all.

It was a wonderful evening, thank goodness all I had to do the next day was fly to China. But I can’t help but wondering what they would have asked about if it was today, a late evening in April, 2007.

Mannekenpis - The bronze creation of Jerome Duquesnoy, the Franco-Flemish Baroque sculptor (1619).

As legends go, is this the infant Duke Godfrey II of Leuven, hanging in a tree in 1142, doing his thing on the invading Berthouts or the 14th century little boy named Juliaanske saving the city from the invading foreign hoards but putting out the fuse.........
